I have to agree, this is the greatest theme song. There are some tv theme songs that are good, there are those that surpass even that. This is one of them. Off the top of my head, another one that is the coolest song ties for 1st place with this song is the theme from Mission:Impossible.

I used to watch this a lot when I was a kid. It’s a great opening to the show. Brilliant.

  11. Gary226 says:

One of the most macho pieces of music you’ll ever hear. Love it!

  12. sunshinemags says:

Jack Lord was really handsome here. Great actor. RIP.

  13. wangkon936 says:

Boy did Michael Man blatantly copy this for his Miami Vice opening!

You’re right. It is brilliant! I used to watch the show as a kid and didn’t appreciate the opening credits. Now I find them almost hypnotic! There is a very dynamic quality about the intro that really prepares you for action! The credits now bring back a great reminder of that era.

When Morton Stevens who wrote this Theme went to Hawaii for a pilgrimage, what he found the Last Eden, palm trees, traffic jams and the Aloha spirit .
Hawaii A Hip Swinging Place. The Theme he made came out Perfect for the Show…. NONE BETTER !

  18. Fuliginosus says:

The quick editing was amazing–25 years ahead of its time.

  19. Gressauddo says:

Jack Lord passed away in 1998, chomsky88.

  20. Neiljjm says:

Why didn’t they ***** a monkey in slow motion? I think that would have added to the intro!!!!

  21. anne3362 says:

That tune will never die!! Love it.

  22. chomsky88 says:

Zoom lens, wide angle, fisheye, Jack Lord looking into the camera like David Caruso(now I know where Caruso got his acting style from), fantastic theme song, a guy named Zulu? No last name? Great, though I don’t remember the actual series that well. Whatever happened to Jack Lord anyway?
